
About Dr. Maurizio Albala, MD
Maurizio Z. Albala, MD is a board-certified anesthesiologist and pain medicine physician in Appleton, Wisconsin, specializing in interventional pain management, spine pain, neuropathic pain, and chronic pain conditions. His clinical services include image-guided spine procedures, neuromodulation (spinal cord stimulation), ketamine therapy, ultrasound-guided diagnostics and injections, and regenerative medicine treatments such as PRP and biologic therapies.
Dr. Albala treats a wide range of conditions including lumbar spondylosis, radiculopathy, facet joint pain, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, peripheral nerve pain, and musculoskeletal injuries. His approach emphasizes accurate diagnosis, minimally invasive treatments, functional restoration, and reduction of long-term opioid dependence when appropriate.
He completed a Pain Medicine fellowship at Tufts Medical Center, an Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, and an Anesthesiology residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Prior to relocating to the United States, Dr. Albala served for many years as a senior attending in intensive care, anesthesiology, and cancer pain management in Italy, where he also obtained board certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Orthopedic Medicine in Paris, contributing to a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and internationally informed approach to pain management.
